A planner earns their fee at a Muslim wedding precisely because there’s so much to coordinate: multiple events across days, two families’ expectations, segregation logistics, halal catering, prayer timings and a supplier list that can run past a dozen businesses. Full planning, partial planning and on-the-day coordination are genuinely different services — be honest about which you need. Many couples plan happily themselves and bring in a coordinator only for the final month and the day itself.
When you interview planners, ask about weddings like yours specifically: segregated events they’ve run, halal caterers and Asian-wedding decorators they already work with, and how they handle the family diplomacy that comes with the territory. A planner with the right supplier relationships saves you more than their fee; one without them is learning on your wedding.
Full planning covers everything from budget and venue search through supplier booking to the day itself. On-the-day (usually really “final month”) coordination takes your finished plan and runs it, chasing suppliers and managing the schedule so your family are guests rather than staff. Partial planning sits between the two.
It matters more than general wedding polish. Segregation logistics, prayer timings, halal catering coordination and multi-event scheduling are second nature to planners who work in this space, and their supplier book will already contain vetted halal caterers, modest-friendly photographers and decorators who build stages weekly.
For an intimate nikah and dinner, usually not — a good venue coordinator covers most of it. Planners come into their own when events multiply: a mehndi, nikah and walima across different venues and days is project management, and that’s exactly what you’re buying.
