What the wedding checklist does

Generic wedding checklists assume one ceremony, one reception and one dress fitting. Muslim weddings rarely work like that — there is often a nikah, a mehndi night, a barat procession and a walima, sometimes hosted by different sides of the family on different days. The checklist reflects that structure from the start, with tasks that mention halal catering, wudu facilities, segregation layout and imam availability rather than leaving you to translate a secular template.

The nikah checklist

The Nikah tab covers the ceremony that matters most: choosing the date, booking the masjid or nikah venue, confirming your imam and wali, arranging witnesses, civil registration and the photography preferences many families care about. Tasks are phased from twelve months out — when popular halls and imams get booked — down to the final week, when you confirm vendors and pack an emergency kit. Keeping the nikah in its own list means the essentials never disappear inside walima catering or mehndi decor.

One timeline for every event (mehndi, barat, walima)

Mehndi, barat and walima each have their own tab with a timeline matched to that event. Mehndi tasks start around three months out — artist, venue, entertainment and gifts. Barat covers the groom’s arrival, venue, cars and the rukhsati. Walima focuses on the reception meal, invitations and family helpers. You can work one event at a time or jump between tabs as bookings land, and the All Events sidebar shows progress on every celebration at a glance.

What to book first

The twelve-month block on the Nikah list is deliberate: venue, imam and guest numbers shape almost everything else. Popular wedding halls in London, Birmingham and Manchester often book twelve to eighteen months ahead, and good nikah imams fill their calendars early too. Once the date and venue are set, halal catering and photography follow — catering because headcount drives the budget, photography because the best nikah and walima photographers are booked months out.
